This week in history: The Assassination
of Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar was the first emperor of
Rome. He changed the government from a republic democratic senate to him
being the emperor. A woman told him to be careful on the fifteenth of
March, the Ides of March. March fifteenth rolled around and Caesar went
to a Senate meeting. Caesar soon found a bunch of angry senators with
knives. Caesar died after saying: "et tu Brute?", Brutus and
Cassius being the plotters of it. Thus be careful this Friday.
This past few days were quite
interesting. District meeting was this Tuesday and as such we met with the
district. The Senior couple in our district is going back to Hyrum Utah,
the Burnett's being their name. I first met them during Irma and it was
fun to talk with them during the district meetings. After district meeting
we went to a fast food place named Checkers. Checkers is extremely cheap
and extremely greasy and it is always an experience going there. After
that we met with a guy named Tom and we talked a lot about the priesthood and
the Doctrine and Covenants because he is into all the deep stuff.
A member named Brother Michealis
referred a part-member family to us. The non-members seem interested in
learning more about the church. We taught them the Restoration and did
some service for them.
Elder Meacham, being the district
leader, went to Lake Hamilton, an area nearby ours, to do baptismal interviews
for Clement and Sandra. The Sisters in our district have been working
with them for about two months now and they were finally ready. They
talked for several hours about a multitude of subjects. Sandra apparently
saw a vision of Moses leading them into the church or something like
that. After that we met with Brother Frasier, a member
from Tennessee who came back to the land of his nativity.
Saturday was the day of the baptism of
Clement and Sandra. A whole bunch of missionaries were there and a bunch
of members from the Lake Hamilton ward showed up as well. The spirit was
there and they were happy. I assume that they were confirmed this past
Sunday.
This Sunday was pretty good. The
spirit is always there during the sacrament meeting. Elder Meacham gave a
really great talk on the people he has seen change on his mission. We met
with a member family named the Mitchell's that night.
Spiritual thought:
Moses 5:5-11
An interesting thought that I had this
week is that the sacrament table looks a lot like an altar that the Israelites
would use for sacrifices. The Lord taught Adam and Eve the truth that
lamb sacrifices were representation of Jesus' sacrifice. Because of the
fall we were all doomed to be separated from God but because He decided to be
our Savior all of the effects of the fall will be taken away.
I stand all amazed, at the love Jesus
offers me,
Confused at the grace which so fully He
proffers me,
I tremble to know, that for me He was
crucified,
That for me, a sinner, He suffered, He
bled and died
Oh it is wonderful, that He should care for me, enough to die for
me,
Oh it is wonderful, wonderful to me.
Because of the Savior's Atonement we can be uplifted spiritually
and temporally. I hope everyone remembers that as they go toward this
Easter season. I love you all and hope that all is splendid,
